But he is not to blame. For in those days investing hardly called for any qualitative checks. What was lost on Einstein is not a secret formula to help find cheap stocks. But the behavioral trait to buy only when others are fearful.
Now 1929 was not the only time when stock markets gave a torrid time to investors. But even as late as 2007, there were few lessons learnt.
The analysts at Wall Street used complex formulae to see how the past performance can be used to simulate the future. They ran screens, tested scenarios and compared with standard deviation of peers. Being objective about their investing decisions came naturally to them. They could estimate the minutest change in company's earning power with a single basis point change in pricing. But the immodest pricing of subprime home loans did not draw their attention. They 'objectively' invested and re-invested in papers with zero valued collateral. This was purely out of their greed for higher ROI (return on investment). Eventually when the loans turned bad and banks were on the verge of insolvency, the objectivity of such investing came to be questioned.

Shares of JPMorgan Chase (NYSE: JPM ) were down as much as 0.81%, but ended the day just 0.16% lower. The likely catalyst was a letter from two board members asking shareholders to keep Jamie Dimon as chairman and CEO of the company. Today's plea comes after a number of proxy advisory firms have issued recommendations that the chairman and CEO positions be split and held by two individuals. While the letter came from just two members, JPMorgan's board of directors believes unanimously that Dimon should remain in both roles.

JP Morgan Chase (JPM) has reportedly resumed talks with the U.S. as the bank is on the verge of a lawsuit concerning its representation of mortgage-backed securities it sold from 2005 through 2007.
The subprime mortgage crisis has been a hot topic since the Great Recession. JP Morgan, among other financial institutions, is in focus as the U.S. notified that institution that it is ready to file a formalized complaint. It seems unlikely that the case will ever go to court as it appears JP Morgan is quite eager to settle the matter and shoulder a hefty fine.
The hits just keep coming for JP Morgan as it is still dealing with the trading loss brought on by the “London Whale” as well as a lawsuit two years ago that stemmed from its acquisition of Bear Stearns.
JP Morgan shares were down $1.14, or 2.27%, at Tuesday’s close. The stock is up 14% YTD.

Advisors' Opinion:- [By Hilary Kramer]
Itau Unibanco (ITUB): A lot of investors have never heard of Itau because it’s headquartered in Brazil, but it’s one of the world’s largest financial institutions. With 5,000 branches, 100,000 employees and nearly $500 billion in assets (yes, half a trillion!), ITUB is not just the largest Latin American bank, it is one of the biggest in the world. With proven dominance in Brazil (and Latin America), Itau Unibanco is a go-to financial pick, and it currently yields an attractive 3.5%. I recently recommended that my Inner Circle readers sell ITUB on a nice bounce due to the risk of near-term weakness on economic data out of China, but I already looking for an opportunity to get back in.

Cencosud is one of the largest retailers in Latin America. It operates grocery stores, home improvement stores and department stores in five countries including Chile, its home base. Its stock is down 51% over the past year for several reasons, including a deal falling through that would have seen it sell 51% of its credit card operations in Chile and Argentina to Itau Unibanco (ITUB) and using the proceeds to reduce its heavy debt load. Add to that a major devaluation of the peso in Argentina, where it generates a quarter of its overall revenue, and you have investors in a full-on panic.

And speaking of top dividend stocks with high capital gains potential, next on the list of are Brazilian banking groups Banco Bradesco (BBD) and Banco Itau (ITUB) — two monthly dividend stocks you must consider.
